"I feel that food has no fear for me anymore"
"Sorry if this is a bit self indulgent but I need to get it out! Over the last few months I've stopped counting calories, points, syns and all those other horrible little mind-twisters that I've let control me since I started trying to lose weight at 18 (I'll be 49 next week!). Just dumping all of that crap and letting myself eat 'normally' for once has probably been one of the most amazing and beautiful gifts I've given myself.
Rachael's 21 day program really helped - I learned a lot about appropriate portions and so on. I've bumped my protein and fat up a bit and go a bit more carefully with the rice and pasta. I feel fuller for longer and don't get the cravings I used to. But I've also discovered that, without all the constraints I've been putting on myself for years, I actually just eat like a 'normal' person. Because I'm not stressing that a piece of cake might take me over my allowance I find I can have a slice and not feel I've blown anything. So a slice is enough and I can just enjoy it. In the past, 'breaking' my diet would have led to a blow out. Tonight I was planning a healthy veg curry. When my husband got home late and I hadn't even started cooking it he said he'd zip out and get us a pizza from Tesco. Instead of panicking I settled for the easy option (we're away for a few days tomorrow and not even packed) - but this time I was happy with a small thin crust because I didn't feel I'd blown something and might as well go all out. And I REALLY enjoyed it. I can't tell you what a complete and utter bloody relief this is. I feel that food has no fear for me anymore. I even managed a two week cruise in the summer and only put on a couple of pounds.
This isn't a quick fix for me. The weight loss is very slow - maybe a couple of pounds a month if I'm lucky. But to be honest I'm so happy with the way I feel that any weight loss now is just a wonderful bonus. So glad I found this group!"
